My Enemy

David Danoff

Assassin, saboteur
inside me, let me be
able to endure
what you do to me.

Whatever you’ve got planned,
whatever cunning twist
of harm by my own hand,
I know I can’t resist.

But maybe it will hurt
a little less if I
can infiltrate my heart
and learn the reasons why.

DAVID DANOFF lives in Maryland and works for the federal government. His poems and reviews have appeared in Poet Lore, The Raintown Review, Measure, The Lyric, The Orchards, Tikkun, Pleiades, and elsewhere.
