The editors of The Yale Review have established no formal writers’ guidelines. We recommend instead that you become acquainted with the magazine in order to see the kinds of work we publish. We ask only that each submission or group of submissions be typed, double-spaced (with the exception of poetry, which may be single-spaced), and accompanied by a stamped, addressed return envelope. Consideration of manuscripts usually requires one to three months.
All submissions should be sent to the Editorial Office:

Earlier this year, The Yale Review initiated a section on this website’s homepage, updated weekly, with a slightly different aesthetic from the Review’s print edition. YR Online publishes shorter, less formal prose (e.g., nonfiction and fiction up to about 1,500 words) exclusively online. Examples can be viewed on the homepage, and also here: scroll over to the pull-down menu under “Collections” and select “YR Online archive.” To submit work for consideration, send an email, including a brief bio, to email@example.com and attach a Word document of the piece. (Note: YR Online does not publish poetry. To submit poetry for the print journal, see above.)
Thank you for your interest in The Yale Review.
